DEPARTMENT “BREEDING, INTRODUCTION  AND CULTIVARS STUDIES ON CROPS

The investigations in the department are aimed at the following actual scientific problems:

• Extending and enriching of the available gene-stock of sweet cherry, sour cherry, apple, pear, plum, table grape and rootstocks for these species.
• Investigations on the agro-biological and production qualities of the selected cultivars and rootstocks, assessment and selection of the most valuable among them  and their release in the practice.
• Use of the rich gene-stock of cultivars and rootstocks as donors in the breeding process for obtaining valuable hybrids and new cultivars with the desired characteristics.
• Use of the tissue and embrioculture methods for the selection of new early and over early ripening cultivars and such, resistant to abiotic stress factors and their rapid reproduction.
• Studies on the interrelations cultivar-rootstock and production of propagating material with a broad spectrum of cultivars.
• Investigation  of  table grape cultivars  under environmental condition  of West 
Bulgaria.
• Creation, enrichment and maintaining of a gene-stock of the selected perspective.
• Cultivars and rootstocks for the purposes of the production of authentic propagating fruit trees.
